Learn More about PRMRP Mito Research Opportunities for FY25; Pre-applications Due June 9

The U.S. Department of Defense’s Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP), established in 1999, has supported research across the full range of science and medicine, with an underlying goal of enhancing the health, care, and well-being of military service members, veterans, retirees, and their family members.

In 2015, UMDF successfully spearheaded advocacy efforts to add mitochondrial disease as an eligible topic in the PRMRP — and has since worked with the Congressional Mitochondrial Disease Caucus annually to maintain that eligibility. Thanks to those efforts, the program has funded more than $70 million in mitochondrial disease research over the last decade.

Mitochondrial disease is once again an eligible topic in the PRMRP for FY2025, and we encourage interested researchers to apply. PLEASE NOTE: The deadline to submit a pre-application is June 9, 2025 at 5 p.m. ET.

Congress has budgeted $150 million for FY25 PRMRP projects, including awards focused on Clinical Trials and Technology/Therapeutic Development.
